CIGNA
Cigna COVID-19 Customer Protection Program
During this national emergency, Cigna is more committed than ever to help protect our customers. One way we’re doing this is to proactively monitor out-of-network claims by providers who may be charging unreasonable and excessive rates for COVID-19-related testing, diagnostic screening and treatment.
Through Cigna’s new COVID-19 Customer Protection Program, we have put additional support and resources in place to ensure our customers can confidently focus on recovery and not worry about the balance billing practices of some providers.
Learn more about the program here or download a leaflet here (PDF).

KAISER
Kaiser Permanente’s National Benefit Policy was updated April 1 to now include waived member out-of-pocket costs for treatment related to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Members who are diagnosed with COVID-19 will not have to pay co-pays or other cost-share related to their medical care and treatment of COVID-19, even if they have to stay in the hospital.
COVID-19 at Kaiser: What You Should Know
-
As of April 1, Kaiser Permanente is waiving member out-of-pocket costs for inpatient and outpatient services when treating COVID-19. Members who are diagnosed with COVID-19 will not have to pay co-pays or other cost-share related to their medical care and treatment of COVID-19, even if they have to stay in the hospital. This waiver applies to all admissions whose date of service is from April 1 to May 31 (unless superseded by government action or extended by Kaiser Permanente).
-
This waiver of member out-of-pocket costs will apply to all places of service including, but not limited to, Hospitalization, Office Visit, Telemedicine, Emergency Room and Urgent Care.
-
This waiver also applies to inpatient medical, inpatient pharmacy, outpatient medical, and transportation costs associated with the treatment of a COVID-19 diagnosis.
-
Kaiser Permanente’s updated national benefit policy applies to all fully insured benefit plans across all Lines of Business in all Kaiser Permanente regions (unless prohibited or modified by local law or regulation).
See the update from April 8, 2020 here (PDF).
COVID-19 testing by doctor referral
If you’re concerned that you or a loved one have symptoms of COVID-19, start an e-visit for an online screening. Currently, in-person tests are only available by doctor referral when medically necessary. For more updates on testing, visit kp.org/coronavirus.
Getting care
You can still get the routine care you need through e-visits, phone, or video visits. If you and your doctor determine that in-person care is needed, Kaiser can safely see you at their medical facilities. As part of Kaiser's commitment to protecting your health, they've implemented temperature checkpoints at all the facilities. Anyone entering the facilities will have their temperature checked. If you’re found to have an elevated temperature you’ll be referred to a separate consult area where you’ll be provided directions for receiving appropriate care.
Emergency departments remain open for those with serious conditions who need immediate medical attention. For primary care, specialty care, and mental health services, start by connecting with your care team from the safety and comfort of your home by visitingkp.org/getcare.
If you’re outside your home region and need care, call the Away from Home Travel Line at 951-268-3900 (TTY 711). You’re covered for urgent and emergency care anywhere in the world. To learn more about getting care while away from home, visit kp.org/travel.
Pharmacy and mail order prescriptions
To support physical distancing, we recommend placing your prescription order online for mail-order delivery. Most prescriptions can be filled by mail and you should receive them within 7 days. Our pharmacies are currently experiencing a high volume of calls and requests, so we recommend planning ahead whenever possible. Visit kp.org/pharmacy to get started.
